The first Republic Day of India was celebrated in 1950. This year, India is celebrating its 67th Republic Day.

Every year, an honor is made to a different head of state. This tradition is called: “Atithi Devo Bhav”. In 2015, President Barack Obama was the chief guest, and this year in 2016, it is the French President François Hollande’s turn to appear next to the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi.

According to India celebrating, the President will attend the Republic Day Parade that takes place every year on January 26th, and it would also be the first time for the French contingent to participate in the Parade of India together with the Indian forces...

Another special feature of the parade 2016 is that there won’t be any camel contingent this year. Instead, Indian Army dogs will take part (after 26 years without) at the Rajpath (the ceremonial boulevard in New Delhi) as well as the usual participants: Indian Army, Air Force, Navy and traditional dance groups…
Beside the Grand Parade at the Rajpath in front of the India Gate in New Delhi, the event in much celebrated throughout the country, in schools, colleges universities and all educational institutions. In Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai, public celebrations are also expected.

The Indian are very proud to live in a multicultural and independent country, thus the Republic Day appears to be very significant and celebrated in very colorful ways to bring all Indian people together.
